Plenty of 24-hands dealt at this week’s crib tourney
At our Saturday, Dec. 7 cribbage tournament, we had a nice group of 14 players with two visitors from the Reno Grassroots Club — Beverly Castillo and Ray Peterson. We also had one guest (cribbage player who is not affiliated with a grassroots club), Don Judson, from Clio.
Darlene Pekovich took the first-place honors with15 game points earned on six wins. Second place was a photo finish between Dave Boynton and Castillo each earning 13 game points off of six wins. Dave edged her out with a total points differential of plus-63 compared to her differential of plus-57. Fourth place went to Steve Frank with a 12/6 scorecard.
There were eight 24-hands held by Susan Terry, the second two by Janet Miller, the fourth by Keith Nelson and the fifth by me, the sixth by Boynton, the seventh by Peterson and the eighth and final one to win the 24-Hand Pot was held by Pekovich who was clearly having a good day.
There were no 4-of-a-kind hands so that side pot rolls over for the second week in a row.
With Darlene’s first-place win this week, the race for Club Champion just got tighter. Susan Terry is still in first place with 104 game points, Brad Archer is right behind her with 98 points, and now Darlene has closed the gap with 88 points.
Susan is the clear leader in the Skunks won/lost tally with 13 skunks won and only two lost for a differential of 11. The next nearest contender is Jan Cook with seven skunks won and five lost for a differential of only two. There isn’t any trophy for being the Skunk King or Queen, but maybe there should be?
The Graeagle Peggers Grassroots Cribbage Club meets at Gumba’s Pizza in Blairsden every Saturday for a nine-game tournament. Check-in is at 10:45 a.m. and play begins at 11 a.m. The American Cribbage Congress sanctions the tournaments that qualify when we field enough contestants each week.
