Plumas Arts hosts reception this Friday evening

Plumas Arts is pleased to announce a gallery opening reception this Friday August 5th from 5pm to 7pm at 525 Main Street in Quincy.

For the month of July & August, the Plumas Arts Gallery has been displaying the Dixie Fire Stories Project exhibiting the work of photographer Joanne Burgueño accompanied with transcription by Sara Gray. Primarily a social media project, Joanne and Sara capture and present the voices of survivors from our communities in hopes to facilitate a cathartic experience among county residents. The exhibition at the gallery features select images from the project and is partnered with excerpts from the survivor’s story.

“Dixie Fire Stories Project was created as a place to share the stories of our community and hopefully get a wider audience to see the impact of these wildfires. These aren’t the stories of Greenville or Plumas County. These are stories about the world we want to live in, the loss of our safety and traditions. And hopefully it will be a story of how we can change and rise, before the ashes are all we have left”, says Joanne Burgueño & Sara Gray.

Plumas Arts together with The Dixie Fire Stories Project was selected for a California Arts Council Impact Project Grant. This exhibition and reception is funded through this grant opportunity. The grant funding will also to help expand the reach of the project through a website and book. The Dixie Fire Stories Project hopes to move the exhibition around the county and launch a book featuring survivor’s stories by June 2023.
