Plumas buckle up — snow and wind are coming

The  US National Weather Service Sacramento California has issued a winter storm warning for the North State including Plumas County, and  snow forecasts for several roadways including Interstate 5, State Route 36 (East and West), State Route 44, State Route 70, State Route 89, and State Route 299 (East and West) for today through early Monday, Dec. 12.

Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet are expected above 5,000 feet with winds gusting as high as 50 mph. The winter storm warning is in effect until 4 a.m. Monday.

Caltrans is warning that higher elevation travel is extremely discouraged through this weekend. If you MUST travel, make sure you have a full tank of gas when leaving populated areas and pack your chains and winter weather travel essentials.
Plan for slow travel and possible long delays or highway closures. Follow instructions from Caltrans and CHP personnel. Slow down around personnel and equipment working and leave them plenty of room.
