Plumas Charter students take in the outdoors

Plumas Charter School’s junior high students have been learning lots outside of class in this first month of school. The students hiked to the Sierra Buttes Lookout on Sept. 15.

On Sept. 18, a few students worked on the Cascade Trail located in the South Park trail system in Quincy with Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship. This is the students’ second year restoring and building trails with Mandy Beatty of the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship.

Lastly, the students this school year will be meeting with Shane Koskinen from the Outdoor Recreation Leadership department at Feather River College every Tuesday for the first few months of school. The students will be rebuilding bicycles and working toward having seven to 10 working bicycles to take on biking field trips in the spring, incorporating bike field trips with bird watching and much more.
