The Veterinary Emergency Response Team (VERT) from UC Davis embedded with Plumas County Animal Services Thursday, Aug. 19, to provide services to fire-injured animals, free of cost. Their services include a mobile hospital and their veterinarians treated a burned cat on their first day working with Plumas County on the Dixie Fire.
VERT joins the local team, who has been responding to emergency calls, rescuing, housing, and feeding thousands of animals, with assistance the past few weeks from Napa Community Animal Response Team and Sonoma Community Animal Response Team.
“We are a small but mighty team, so we are appreciative of the invaluable support in the form of personnel and veterinary services,” Animal Care Services Officer Alex Saez said. “We want our community to know that their pets are being cared for– whether out in the field or back here at the shelter.”
Plumas County Animal Services has received an outpouring of donations and is at capacity. If you would like to support veterinarian and surgery costs, please consider making a monetary donation to the GoFundMe set up by a veterinarian working with Plumas County ACS:
