Football season has leapt forward with a larger schedule than 2020, so in that way things are looking up. Chester, Quincy, and Portola have published a season with games running 10 weeks through to Nov. 5.  Some Greenville students have been able to step into nearby programs. Quincy’s returning head football coach Daniel Waltermire is joined on the field by GHS coach David Keller stepping in as assistant coach for the QHS Trojans. “It’s already been a tumultuous season like last year,” said Waltermire. “Had first two games canceled due to covid/quarantine and were super lucky to replace Hamilton with Golden Sierra tomorrow. So it’ll be great to finally take the field.”

Steve Heskett is returning to coach the Portola Tigers, who had a pretty good season when they took the field last spring. Fans and athletes were grateful to squeeze in a quick impromptu 4-game spring season 2021 after missing the entire fall football season 2020.

TJ Ragan is returning as head coach for the Chester Volcano football team. “We are glad to have a season,” said Ragan. Ain’t that the truth! Covid is still throwing a wrench in the mix, and of course the fires continue to have a tremendous impact on our entire community. Pulling together for a football game may offer a distraction for those that can bear it.

All three of the High School coaching teams, as well as Feather River College coach Nick Goulet and staff, have building their teams for years.  “Looking forward to another year,” said Goulet. “Kids have been working hard and been very committed. Can’t wait to get started!” With any luck, football games may work like washing your car, perhaps it will start raining early!

Portola, Chester, and Quincy High Schools, as well as Feather River College, have all stated that no restrictions are in place for outdoor athletic events such as football games. Fans are welcome and encouraged to attend games.
