Portola High golf team wins Feather River Conference
Tiger golfers won the first place in conference May 2 at the beautiful and scenic Grizzly Ranch Golf Course.
“The PHS team of golfers were led by Owen Bowling’s outstanding round of 70 on the very challenging course; Portola captured first place in the conference,” said head golf coach for Portola, William Davis. The win qualified Portola to advance to the Sectional Championships next week in Redding at Gold Hills Golf Club.
The season was truncated due to the heavy snowfall and delays in opening courses such as Mount Huff, Bailey Creek and Lake Almanor. Of the four league matches that took place, Portola won the tournaments at Graeagle Meadows, Plumas Pines and Whitehawk Ranch.
Taking final swings at Grizzly Ranch on May 2, the Westwood Lumberjacks rattled the Portola Tiger cage and tied those mighty Tigers on the final match of the regular season.
Coach Davis expressed his gratitude for the golf clubs near Portola. “The golfing community in Graeagle continues to provide the principle financial support for the team,” said Davis. “The Men’s Golf Club of Graeagle Meadows, the Men’s and Women’s clubs of Plumas Pines and the men’s and women’s clubs of Whitehawk Ranch donated $2,500 to support the golf team.”
