Portola Volleyball kicks off conference with a win in league

The Tigers beat the Maxwell Panthers on Sept. 24 in the first conference volleyball games of the season for PHS. The set scores were 25-23 for Maxwell, 25-15 for PHS, 25-21 for PHS, 25-23 for Maxwell and the final game, 15-9 for PHS. It was a tough, tough game and the Tigers held tight and persevered to victory.

The Tigers have been training hard and taking their education where they could get it. Preseason games included matches with Nevada teams such as Sierra Sage Academy in Yerington, McQueen in Reno, Silver Stage in Silver Springs, Carson in Carson City and Reed in Sparks. The girls also practiced with Loyalton, Fall River, Los Molinos, and Lassen to strengthen their skills on the court.

Portola varsity volleyball features Annie Brennan (Folchi), Bryana Burger, Margaret Canseco, Micaela Coronado, Abby Klemesrud, Justine Rapacilo, Emily Sheridan and Sophie Ward.

The girls have just two home games in league play remaining and fans at home games are always appreciated. This coming Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m. in Portola, the Tigers will play the Lynx from CORE Butte. The last home game is with the Biggs Wolverines on Tuesday, Oct. 15, also at 6:30 p.m. A special note: the Tigers travel to Quincy Thursday, Oct. 17, for a rivalry game at 6 p.m.
