Prescribed fire planned Friday near Galeppi Ranch off Quincy Junction Road

To reduce hazards around Quincy, and to increase forest health, a prescribed fire is planned for Friday, Jan. 28, near Galeppi Ranch off Quincy Junction Road in Quincy.

The burn will take place if it is a designated burn day and if conditions are safe. The operation will include perimeter hose lays and will have the support of a Quincy Volunteer Fire Department engine on standby at the site.

The prescribed fire is part of an ongoing project of fuel reduction on this 36-acre property. The effort is led by members of the Plumas Underburn Cooperative, with a special permit from the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District. The Plumas Underburn Cooperative is a local volunteer-based group that provides tools, training, permitting assistance, and volunteer time to support the use of fire on private lands.
