Profile in Business – Almanor Auto & Welding
Need expert welding or fabrication work done locally in and around the Lake Almanor Basin and the town of Chester?
Almanor Auto & Welding has all your welding needs covered, from custom gates and railings to the simplest welding repairs.
With over 30 years personal experience, owner Pete Neely said he opened his business in Chester in 2015, adding that his shop is fully equipped to get repairs and installations done correctly and in a timely manner.
“Right now most of our business is welding,” rather than auto body repair, “as there is currently more demand for that service,” he explained.
Neely, together with his wife Michelle, were born in Plumas County where they have lived for 50 years.
Customers can depend on his team at Almanor Auto & Welding, “to get the job done right the first time,” he vowed.
Services include deck and interior railings, custom metal stairs, ornamental and wrought iron gates built with custom paneling and other structural designs, as well as tasks like boat dock repairs, “anything to do with welding,” no matter the size of the job.
He noted that they have the ability to add any number of textures and patterns to metal, including making pieces that have a vintage look by adding rusted patina using specialty finishes along with clear coat for added durability.
In addition to residential jobs — which represents the majority of work they do — they also work with general contractors out in the field to perform welding services on aluminum and steel structures for industrial and commercial projects.
Customers have the opportunity to browse through a book of parts from the manufacturer King Metals, listing numerous metal pieces for any home project, then ordering what they want through the welding shop. “Or some clients prefer to search Google for ideas like ornamental arched gates for example.”
Neely and his team take measurements at customers’ homes and consult with them first before any construction or installation begins.
He employs certified welders on his team such as Jere Bolin, “who was a welder in the Navy” with a total of 35 years under his belt, and Jessie Turner.
In the case of repairs, Almanor Auto & Welding will handle everything with your insurance company, making the process easy and stress free.
Parts can be sandblasted and then painted using high-end Deltron paints in a variety of color pigments, including the popular satin black finish.
Weather-resistant powder coatings are done in Reno and the treated pieces transported back to the shop in Chester for final installation.
Hours of operation are Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but Neely said customers might have to call him on his cell phone at 258-7655 when he and his crew are out in the field and his shop is therefore closed.
“We offer the craftsmanship, personal service and pride that comes in a locally owned and operated welding shop,” he insisted, adding that, “Satisfaction is guaranteed.”
