Public comments sought for Removal Action Workplan (RAW) addendum
PUBLIC MEETING
August 3rd, 2023
5:00 pm-6:00pm
Public comments sought for Removal Action Workplan (RAW) addendum for the Crescent Mills Brownfield site redevelopment.
Following several years of negotiating planning and liability challenges, cleanup efforts are well underway at the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment’s (Sierra Institute’s) Crescent Mills site. Over the past four years, Sierra Institute has made significant progress in cleaning up the historic lumber mill and advancing redevelopment efforts in order to revitalize this Brownfield site into a wood utilization campus. Remediated portions of the site are already being utilized to support businesses targeting biomass utilization and expediting Dixie Fire recovery.
Sierra Institute plans to begin remediation efforts on the southern portion of the site utilizing funding from a fourth EPA Brownfield Cleanup Grant. Site conditions required a remediation approach that varies slightly from that established in the original Removal Action Workplan (RAW). Prior to beginning remedial actions, Sierra Institute is seeking public comment on an addendum to the RAW.
The public comment period will commence Monday, July 17th, 2023 and end Thursday, August 17th, 2023.
Documents are available for review and comment either online (https://sierrainstitute.us/program/ivwpc/) or at the Sierra Institute’s office in Taylorsville, Ca at 4438 Main Street.
There will be a public meeting held on Thursday, August 3rd, 2023, from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Sierra Institute’s Indian Valley Wood Utilization Campus located at 15960 CA-89, Crescent Mills, CA 95934 to discuss the addendum to the RAW as well as ongoing cleanup and redevelopment work at wood utilization campus in Crescent Mills.
