Quincy Firewise meeting Wednesday; community members can do their part

Quincy Firewise is a local volunteer group making efforts to create a more fire-aware and fire-prepared community. Quincy Firewise invites all Quincy residents to engage with these efforts and attend the second monthly Firewise gathering, scheduled for this Wednesday, March 23, from 5-6 p.m. at the West End Theatre.

Quincy Firewise leads Mike Flanigan and Richard Stockton will welcome attendees and provide updates on the insurance industry. Greg Kinne and Sally McGowan will return, this time to talk about their Peer to Peer Home Ignition Zone Consultations. In addition, Ryan Tompkins and Bethany Rouse will give a Reporting Tool Demonstration. The presentations will be brief to provide time for questions. Lastly, based upon a community member’s suggestion, there will be an individual reporting demonstration after the meeting. Bring your recorded hours if you would like Bethany’s support to enter them into the database.

Quincy Firewise will meet monthly to provide guest speakers and information including home insurance, evacuation preparedness, home hardening, creating defensible space zones around homes and structures, pile burning tips and the Plumas Underburn Cooperative (PUC).

If you are passionate about building relationships with your peers while participating in collective actions to protect our community from wildfire, we welcome you to join us each month. We also encourage you to bring a friend and neighbor.

When: Wednesday, March 23  from 5-6 p.m. (meetings are scheduled the fourth Wednesday of every month)
Where: West End Theatre inside Quintopia
