100 YEARS AGO … 1919

A.T. Gould of La Porte, who has the contract for the transportation of the United States mail between La Porte and other points of Plumas County, utilizes various modes of transporting the mail. He takes a Ford automobile from Quincy to Pauly’s Ranch, from there to Cedar Tree he makes the trip with a wagon and a team of horses and the remaining 14 miles to La Porte he travels on snowshoe, carrying the mail on his back.

50 YEARS AGO … 1969

The Plumas County Board of Supervisors will choose a new District Attorney next week to be the successor to Stanley C.”Spike” Young, newly appointed Plumas County Superior Court Judge

To date, two applicants are being considered for the $15,000 a year job: Morris Durrant of Quincy, 55, currently the Plumas County Deputy District Attorney and Portola City attorney R. E. Roney, 30, of Portola

25 YEARS AGO … 1994

Pardner, a nine month old, 175 pound Saint Bernard dog, owned by a Quincy family has a starring role in the 1993 released movie: “Beethoven’s 2nd”. The film will premier at the Town Hall Theater in Quincy Saturday night where Pardner will walk the red carpet and greet his public. He played the part of Mo in the movie when he was just a few months old.

10 YEARS AGO … 2009

The Plumas County Fairgrounds is already preparing for the 150th anniversary this August. Inmate firefighters from the Antelope Conservation Camp have been dismantling the outdated and dry, rotted agriculture area family garden stalls. They will be rebuilt with monetary and material donations.
