Restaurant fundraiser today to help young boy fighting leukemia
The community is pulling together to help 8-year-old Adam Morgan and his family in their fight against his recently diagnosed leukemia. Today a local restaurant is stepping up to help out.
Lucio’s, on top of the hill in Quincy, is donating all proceeds this Sunday, Oct. 11, to the family to help cover medical, travel and lodging costs during his treatments at U.C. Davis Medical Center.
The restaurant will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for dine-in or carry out. The restaurant will be offering its regular menu as well as Guadalajara quesadillas, popusas and Barbacoa Tacos.
Adam lives with parents, Alec and Courtney, and 5-year-old brother Isaac in Quincy. He is a second-grader and both of his parents work in education. Alec teaches fifth grade at Quincy Elementary and Courtney works with the Trio Program at Feather River College. They will be juggling work with weekly trips to the medical center for Adam’s chemotherapy and other treatments.
Though Adam loves to play outside with his little brother, he currently uses a wheelchair due to extreme pain in his joints. When Adam began complaining about the pain, his parents thought he might have childhood arthritis since it’s a genetic trait carried by the family. But tests revealed something more severe — leukemia, and on Sept. 11, Adam received his first chemotherapy treatment at UC Davis.
Family friends Whitney Maez and Christina Russo, fellow elementary school teachers, have established a gofundme page to help. The public can help by going to gofundme or those who wish to contribute directly to the family, can do so by contacting Whitney Maez at [email protected].
They can also help by enjoying a delicious meal this today at Lucio’s, knowing that the proceeds will benefit Adam and his family.
