Roland “Rollie” A  Litz

Roland (Rollie) Litz passed away at the age of 92 on October 4, 2020 at the Portola Skilled Nursing Facility.  Rollie was born in Hosmer South Dakota to Phillip and Rosa Litz on November 2, 1927. He was the youngest of seven children and was raised in Elk Grove, California.

Following his graduation from Elk Grove High, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1947. On June 6, 1948 he married Doratha Kaufman, his high school sweetheart. Together they raised two children, Tara Ballard and Jeff Litz. After military service, Rollie worked in the Sacramento area as a carpenter and eventually became a general contractor. In the early 1970’s he moved to Graeagle to retire. In 1978 he came out of retirement to open Litz Construction where he and his son proudly built many custom homes throughout Plumas and Sierra counties. He retired a second time in 1990 and turned the business over to his son.  After his wife’s passing in 1992, Rollie moved back to Sacramento and reunited with his high school friend, Cecilia  DeVine, where they remained companions for over 20 years.

Rollie was proceeded in death by his wife Dortha Litz, his son Roland Jeff Litz, his daughter Tara Ballard, his grandson Timothy Knutson, and his companion Cecilia DeVine. He is survived by his daughter in-law Connie Litz, grandchildren Heidi (Cory) Streeter and Ryan Litz, and 5 great grandchildren.

Rollie will be laid to rest with his wife at Sacramento City Cemetery.
