Seneca reports outbreak associated with staff and patients UPDATED-9 cases in total

Seneca Healthcare District announced a series of positive COVID-19 tests associated with its skilled nursing facility patients, staff and acute/swing beds.

The outbreak was detected late yesterday with one employee testing positive; staff and residents have been tested weekly. (Plumas News has reached out to see how many cases have been connected with Seneca.) UPDATE: To date there have been 9 cases associated Seneca.

In its press release today, Seneca said it has been diligent in following very strict precautions as guided by the California Department of Public Health and other official Public Health Agencies for its skilled nursing facility regarding COVID-19 since the outbreak in March of 2020.

In accordance with public health guidelines, Seneca is conducting a full investigation and has activated a mitigation plan to prevent any additional exposure in the community. At this time, exposure is internal to Seneca, but if the investigation shows community exposure, individuals identified will be contacted by the Plumas County Public Health Agency.

Plumas County has been experiencing a significant surge in positive COVID-19 cases. Seneca Healthcare is coordinating all investigatory efforts with Public Health to provide community awareness and contact tracing activities.

If community members believe that they have been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case within the last 7-14 days, the can take advantage of a COVID-19 mass testing event scheduled for Dec. 9 from 9-11 a.m. in the Seneca hospital parking lot.
