Single vehicle crash results in fatality; awaiting identification

A man was killed in a single vehicle incident Saturday, Dec. 5, at 5:03 p.m. in the Feather River Canyon. As of this morning, Dec. 7, at 10 a.m., the identity of the individual has not been released.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a man was driving a tan 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 westbound on Highway 70, west of Rich Bar Road. For an unknown reason, he allowed the vehicle to travel off the roadway to the north and onto an asphalt paved shoulder. The Chevrolet traveled off the paved shoulder and over a drainage ditch. The front end of the Chevrolet then collided with a rocky embankment. As a result of the collision, the driver sustained major injuries which he succumbed to at the scene. The collision remains under investigation.
