Soroptimist announces applications and workshop for 2020 Live Your Dream scholarship

Soroptimist International of Quincy announced applications for the 2020 “Live Your Dream” scholarship award are now open and available to women who are the main wage earners for their families.

The $1,000 grant helps local women continue their education or receive training.

The application deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 26, and forms are available online at www.soroptimist.org/our-work/live-your-dream-awards/apply-for-the-live-your-dream-awards.html.

In addition, the SIQ group will host a free workshop Tuesday, Oct. 29, to assist candidates with the application process and offer tips about how to apply. Those with laptops will be able to apply online during the workshop, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Quincy Elks Lodge, 2004 E. Main St.

Soroptimist International of Quincy members will provide a $1,000 “Live Your Dream” cash grant to one award recipient who will advance to the Sierra Nevada Region level where recipients could receive up to an additional $5,000. The program culminates with three finalist awards of $10,000 at the national level.

Recipients can use the “Live Your Dream” award to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training. The grant is applicable toward tuition, books, childcare, transportation or any other education-related expense.

The “Live Your Dream” award provides more than $1.6 million in cash grants to head-of-household women in need each year.
