Students could receive $10,000 scholarships to FRC for STEM study

If you or someone you know is interested in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) degree; then Feather River College (FRC) is the place for them to begin their educational journey. Thanks to a large grant from the National Science Foundation, FRC now has funding available for scholarships that are specifically in the STEM fields of study.

At FRC, the degrees and programs eligible for this grant money are biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, mathematics, and physical science. This is exciting news for any student interested in one of these fields of study, as these scholarships will help tremendously, with up to $10,000 to cover the costs of attending Feather River College. Both incoming high school students as well as current FRC students are eligible to apply.

When asking a local student, who wished to remain anonymous, about this opportunity, they commented that, “This is honestly really amazing. I feel these degrees are becoming more popular, and so to have your cost of attending college covered is really awesome!”

FRC would like to thank Anna Thompson for her hard work in securing the funding. When asked about what this means for the college and its student body, Anna had this to say: “I am so excited for FRC’s STEM students to have this amazing opportunity. Research has shown that rural students do not enter STEM fields, as well as drop out of STEM fields, at much higher rates than their urban peers. This grant is designed to level the playing field for STEM-interested/talented rural students at FRC, so that in the future rural areas such as our county will have more STEM representation from professionals who grew up and were educated here!”
