Supervisors choose interim sheriff

Todd Johns of Greenville is the newly selected interim sheriff of Plumas County beginning with the New Year.

Three members of the Board of Supervisors in a role call vote chose Johns. Supervisor Lori Simpson did not vote, stating she thought the public should learn the three candidates’ responses to questions from the board. That would give the public more time to contact their supervisor and give input.

Three candidates, all of them sergeants, interviewed before the Board of Supervisors and the public, during a special meeting Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Those candidates were Johns, Chad Hermann of Portola and Carson Wingfield of Quincy.

The vacancy becomes available Dec. 31, Sheriff Greg Hagwood’s final day. Hagwood submitted his resignation in September leaving three years, three months of his term.
