Suspected DUI crash ends in engulfed car and trees

Christian Miranda, 20, of Quincy, was driving a 2003 Ford Escape on Mt. Hough Road, approximately 2.1 miles north of Quincy Junction Road at 11:21 p.m. on Oct. 31. According to the CHP, he was driving about 25 mph, when due to his level of intoxication, he allowed the Ford to drift off the road and into a drainage ditch located on the left side of the roadway. Miranda overcorrected and turned the Ford to the right which cause the vehicle to travel off the east side of the roadway and collide into a boulder.

The crash caused the Ford to become fully engulfed in flames. The fire started to spread to surrounding trees, but was quickly extinguished by Quincy Fire and the Forest Service. Following the collision, Miranda exited his vehicle before the flames worsened. Officers soon arrived on the scene. After an investigation, Miranda was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Miranda was wearing his seatbelt and did not claim any injuries as a result of the collision.
