Terry continues to dominate cribbage club play
At our Saturday, Jan. 18, cribbage gathering we had a nice even 10 players with one guest, Ethan Borgman, from Portola.
First place went to our current club leader Susan Terry earning 15 game points with seven wins on her card. Keith Nelson from Crescent Mills took second with a respectable 13/6 score and Darlene Pekovich took third with an 11/5 day.
There were three 24-hands held by Doug Rodrigues Nelson and Dave Boynton with the last one of the day so he won the 24-Hand Side Pot. I had the only 24-hand for the better part of the day (about six games) and made an innocent comment about there being only one so far. BIG mistake because within a minute of mentioning that, Keith got his!
There were only two 4-of-a-kind hands; one held by Susan Terry and the other by Clyde Terry. I don’t recall them cutting for high card so I suspect mom and daughter may have just agreed to split the pot.
We are just about half way through the official 2019-20 season and Susan Terry continues to extend her lead for the Club’s Championship. As we mentioned earlier, each Grassroots Club Champion will get an invitation to play in the Tournament of Champions (TOC) at the Grand Nationals which are being held in nearby Sacramento this year in late 2020.
Brad Archer and Ron Morgan, both from Reno, are in second and third place so anything can happen with a little over four months left to play in the season.
The Graeagle Peggers Grassroots Cribbage Club meets at Gumba’s Pizza in Blairsden every Saturday for a nine-game tournament. Check-in is at 10:45 a.m. and play begins at 11. The American Cribbage Congress sanctions the tournaments that qualify when we field enough contestants each week.
