Retired railroad conductor Chris Skow invites one and all to come and experience the magic of his outdoor G-scale model railroad, running through lush gardens and winding around pine trees with waterfalls, creeks, ponds, and villages, from Saturday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 2 in Blairsden-Graeagle.
“Over Labor Day weekend, we’ll have trains running through the gardens for the enjoyment of the visiting public,” Skow said. The model railroad is ever expanding and continues to grow through the forest seven years after Skow began the project.
Chris and his wife Deborah share a passion and mutual enthusiasm for all things railroading. Seven years ago, a visit to a five-day Garden Train Convention in San Francisco gave the Skows the idea to expound upon their healthy collection, and the couple’s passion manifested into their now-extensive garden trains.
The Skows’ model G-scale (the G stands for “garden”) runs trains on an intricate track taking up much of the front yard, with expansion into a greenhouse allowing for the addition of hundreds of plants from around the world.
The event is geared toward the family, and the Skows invite the kids to come along for the ride. Admission is free, and tours are located at 70155 Woodside Drive, in Blairsden, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
