The trucks and engines came down Main Street singly, in pairs and in lines, as area residents turned out to show firefighters and support staff a big thank you for all of their hard work. Word quickly spread and the town rallied around an effort to salute the men and women from city fire departments for structure protection, for those who ran dozers or drove water tenders, and for the firefighters doing their part to lessen the severity of the Bear and Claremont fires within the North Complex. Main Street Quincy resident Nancy Yeager had an idea Sept. 23 and shared it with Supervisor Lori Simpson. Together they helped spread the word that a show of support was in order. By Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. Main Street was lined with supporters waving signs and flags.
