Train vs. semi results in fatality
The Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol released a report today on a fatal incident involving a train and a Freightliner that resulted in the death of an Arizona man.
Jose Togni, 64, of Goodyear, Arizona was driving a 2023 Freightliner with 53′ box trailer, eastbound on SR-44 at an unknown speed on Dec. 6 at 3:46 p.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, for unknown reasons, Togni failed to stop at the railroad crossing on SR-44 at Feather Lake Railroad Crossing (east of A-21) as a train was approaching. A 2014 GE Locomotive, operated by BNSF Railway, collided with the front of the Freightliner. Mr. Togni suffered fatal injuries on scene as a result of the crash. The BNSF Railway crew members were uninjured. This crash is still under investigation at this time.
