The Third Annual “Twisty-M” Motorcycle Poker Run is coming up on June 18. The ride is a fundraiser for the Emily Jane Wilbanks Memorial Fund, which benefits local youth in Plumas County. The fund was established by Kim and Sam Wilbanks to honor their daughter, Emily, after they lost her in a car accident in 2000. The Memorial Fund has granted over $60,000 in scholarships and other support for area youth. Proceeds from this fun event will go into the Memorial Fund to allow it to continue to grow and serve the youth of Plumas County well into the future.
The Twisty-M Poker Run is named after Emily (“M”). It starts in Truckee at El Toro Bravo Mexican Restaurant, where participants draw their first card. From there riders enjoy a beautiful “twisty” mountain ride touring north through the “Lost Sierra” along scenic US 89, over Lakes Basin Highway, through Graeagle, and by Lake Davis. (For info on the stops, click here.)
The ride culminates at the Historic Diamond-S Ranch in the Sierra Valley where a celebratory shot of whiskey awaits folks (regular AND peach flavored!). At the Ranch riders also enjoy a delicious BBQ and live music while they swap stories, receive trophies and awards and drool over the great raffle items. The “best poker hand” wins a beautiful hand-crafted knife from Outlaw Silver Works.
