Update on Indian Valley Museum and Firewise presentation during meeting tonight, Sept. 26

The Indian Valley Museum (Mt Gem and Jura Museum Society) in Taylorsville will host a general membership meeting with a potluck and program on Monday, Sept. 26 starting between 5:30 and 6 p.m.  The program will feature Mike Yost who will present “Taylorsville’s Firewise.”   In addition, the video “California is Burning” from United Shades of America considers how we must learn to live with fire as it has become a reality for us living in the forests.

The museum board is proud to report that the museum’s displays are fresh and re-established after the spring months of hard work by many volunteers.  The Annex addition now encloses the Hardgrave Stage and the original Dodge fire truck, thanks to our local member contractors and their work crews.

We have had a good summer attendance, with only one more month left before we close for the season at the end of October.  Our 4th of July Cowboy Breakfast was a vast success with over 500 breakfasts served.  So many stepped up to help us, both members, the Indian Valley 4H, and community members.  It was a difficult decision to cancel this year’s Frontier Day, but we look forward to next Sept. 9, 2023, when we will hold this community event.

The museum’s Living History project committee is still accepting submissions for their history publication.  Personal Dixie Fire and COVID-19 stories, comments, and pictures can be forwarded to IVM PO Box 194 Taylorsville 95983.

Coming in October, the museum will host the Indian Valley’s Community Supper.  On Monday, Oct. 17 a dinner of chili, cornbread, salad, dessert, and a beverage will be offered at the Historic Taylorsville Hall from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.  The cost is $5 for the meal.

Again, the public is truly welcomed to attend our general meetings on the fourth Monday of every month.  Come to enjoy the potluck and stay to learn what is happening with the museum and enjoy an informative program. Membership is only $10 each year.  Your support is sincerely appreciated.
