Victim of last week’s solo logging truck accident identified

The driver who was killed in a solo-vehicle accident last Friday, Jan. 28, has been identified. The California Highway Patrol said the deceased is Russell Shawn Clark, 55, of Gerber. The crash remains under investigation.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of an empty Kenworth Log Truck was traveling approximately 50-55 mph northbound on Highway 89, on the north side of the Crescent Grade today, Jan. 28, at approximately 8:42 a.m .  For unknown circumstances, the driver allowed the Kenworth log truck to drive off the roadway onto the east shoulder of the highway. The Kenworth drove onto the east shoulder and collided into a dirt embankment. Emergency personnel arrived on scene to assist with the collision. The driver was declared deceased on scene by the Plumas County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Both directions of Highway 89 were reduced to one-way traffic control for approximately four hours to facilitate the on-scene collision investigation.  The exact cause of the collision is not yet known and the incident remains under investigation.
