Wanda Jean (Rushing) Driggers

Wanda Jean (Rushing) Driggers, surrounded by her family, passed away and went to live with her heavenly father on March 21, 2023.

Wanda was born on April 21, 1933. As a child, Wanda’s family moved often. They eventually came to reside in Loyalton, Ca., where she met her husband Albert James Driggers (Junior).

In 1949, Junior married Wanda and they raised their family of three girls, Carol, Darlene, and Rita, in Loyalton. They were foster parents to Maria and Sandy, whom they still have contact with.

Together, Junior and Wanda felt the call of Jesus on their lives. In 1952, they made a radical change in their lives and they became Christians. In 1967, they moved their family to Portola, and served the community of Portola as the pastor and pastor’s wife of Portola Assembly of God Church.

Together, Junior and Wanda served the town of Portola for 29.5 years. Some of Wanda’s favorite times in the church was teaching the Adult Sunday School Class, leading Women’s Ministries, and helping with Holiday Helping Hands and Project Santa Claus. Her service to the Portola Community will be greatly missed.

Wanda Driggers will leave a legacy as a Christian because of her compassion and her love for lost souls. She was a woman who enjoyed the simple pleasure of fellowship, family and friends around the dinner table. Wanda will be remembered as funny, feisty, hardworking, an amazing cook, an awesome seamstress and quilter, a beautiful cake decorator, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother!

Wanda’s family includes Carol and Jim Thompson, Darlene and Bob Crews, and Rita and Dale Johnson. Wanda loved her foster daughters Maria Richardson and Sandy Tanner as if they were her own.

Wanda is blessed with grandchildren that include Jim and Jaymie Crews, Darla Thompson, Jeannie and Ryan Cullins, Linda and Allan Cash, and Sharon and Jonathan Hoover.

God blessed Wanda with great-grandchildren that includes Wesley and Brittany Tripp, Ryan and Lili Cash, Savannah Cash, Raegan Jean Cash, Ryleigh Cash, Makayla Hoover, McKinley Clark and Alayna Taylor, Zackery and Annaliese Clark, Jackson Crews, Jordyn Crews, and Joshua Crews.
