Wildfire Community Preparedness Day this Saturday

The Chester Fire Department and the Chester Firewise Committee will be participating in National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on Saturday, May 5, at the Holiday Market in Chester, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Representatives of these organizations will be setting up a table to provide “Firewise” materials for homeowners detailing ways to mitigate fire hazards around homes or businesses.

The event includes free Wildland Fire Home Ignition Safety Check signups, defensible space, time and expense sheets, and information on preparing for emergencies during the upcoming fire season.

There will also be something for the kids to take home with them, including red plastic fire helmets and coloring books.

Adults will have the opportunity to test their knowledge on defensible space around their homes.

Karen Lichti, CFD public information officer, said everyone who attends the Wildfire Community Preparedness Day event will leave with information that could make all the difference between being prepared for this fire season and risking their home to wildfire.
