Wildfire Preparedness Fair this Saturday at the fairgrounds

The Plumas County Fire Safe Council invites you to attend the annual Wildfire Preparedness Fair on Saturday, May 14, at the Plumas County Fairgrounds from 10 .am. to 3 p.m. Learn about home hardening, defensible space, evacuation preparedness and more. The fair will feature a number of community organizations, a prize raffle, and guest speaker. Food, beverages, snow cones and Quintopia beer will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the Plumas Underburn Cooperative and the Plumas Swim Team.

11 a.m. – Guest Speaker Yana Valachovic is the UC Cooperative Extension County Director and Forest Advisor for Humboldt and Del Norte counties and is known for her work in wildfire mitigation and resilience and impacts of code changes on wildfire building performance. She will discuss her recent research on housing arrangement and vegetation factors associated with single-family home survival in the 2018 Camp Fire, as well as lessons learned from the Marshall Fire structure damage assessment. Come out to learn how wildfire can impact homes and communities.

1 p.m. – Vulcan Vents will host a burn demonstration to show how proper vents can protect your home from wildfire. Vulcan Vents produces a variety of vents that can be used for home hardening retrofits. Join us to see how these vents work and how home hardening adjustments can protect your home from ember ignitions.

 

2:30 p.m. – Raffle and announcements from Plumas County Fire Safe Council. Raffle prizes include a specialized rake, a fire resistant tarp or a fire resistant document holder. The more booths you visit, the more chances you have to win!
