The East Zone has been providing regular updates pertaining to the Dixie Fire. As predicted the winds are causing the fire to be very active — particularly in the Genesee and Janesville areas.
The fire is making downhill, short-range crown runs in the Genesee Valley area. The worst of the winds were predicted to be from 1-7 p.m. today, but the winds are forecast to extend into the night, albeit not quite as strong.
Additionally, the portion of the fire that is between Janesville and Milford is also experiencing increased fire activity along its eastern flank. Air tankers had been aiding in the effort, until they were grounded due to high winds and low visibility. Additional resources have been called into defend structures in Milford.
