Wrestlers get into action
The 50th annual Chester Invitational Wrestling Tournament took place Dec. 6 and 7 at Lassen College in Susanville. Due to CIF safety rules the Chester High School gym is not large enough to hold the three mats needed to host such a tournament.
The CHS 2019-20 team includes seniors, sophomores and freshmen. The senior wrestlers are Callum Kremer, Bonner Montgomery and Trenton Longacre. Sophomore Joseph Garrett is joined by freshmen Logan Oswold, Parker Montgomery and Haven Chase.
The 2019 tournament was filled with challenging wrestlers competing from 13 teams. The overall winning team with the greatest number of points for the tournament came from Fernley, Nevada.
Wrestlers on the Volcano team brought home first-place wins. Kremer won first at 145 pounds. Longacre took fourth in the same division. Montgomery won the 138-pound division. Garrett won one of his matches and lost two at 152 pounds. Parker Montgomery won two and lost two in the same 152-pound division and Oswold won one and lost two at 138 pounds.
“We are looking forward to the remainder of the 2019 and 2020 wrestling seasonwhich includes 10 more tournaments before the state tournament in Bakersfield,” said Chester head wrestling coach Clay Montgomery. “The team hopes to qualify several wrestlers this year to go to state. A special thank you to Tom and Barbara Jones from Fall River for running the computer system for us and also to Lassen College for allowing us to host the tournament at their college.”
