Alexander Pfingston, 11 years old and a sixth-grader at C. Roy Carmichael Elementary School, recently joined Lost Sierra Composite Mountain Bike Team which gave him a scholarship to enter his first official mountain bike race Sept. 7 in the Rattlesnake Roundup Race at Hidden Valley Regional Park with the Nevada Interscholastic Cycling Association.

He placed seventh out of 24 other sixth-graders.

According to Alexander’s mother, “Biking isn’t something any of us paid much attention to, it was always just some side pastime he did to get around town and hang out with his friends. I wasn’t expecting much, but I went and waited at the finish line to get a picture or two. Then, the first sixth-graders started to cross the line, when I was like, ‘Hey! That’s my boy! What?’ and he was fighting for sixth place something fierce!”
