A fire camp emerges to help battle the Dixie Fire
What a difference a few days make in the life of a Wildfire Incident Command Post in the meadow next to George Young Park in Westwood. On Friday, July 23, the facility was just finishing the final set-up and access roads were being graded. By Monday morning, July 26, there are dozens of engines and hundreds of firefighters from across California making use of the facilities to rest and regenerate. There were crews from San Jose, Salt Flats, Dixon and Arcadia, just to name a few, parked near the dining area and Cal Fire Crews from numerous fire camps. Photo by Gregg Scott
The dozer crews coming for a rest are provided with special parking. Of course, they need the extra room to maneuver those huge lowboy rigs around that haul these machines that can weigh as much as 63 tons.
