Beckwourth Complex remains 90 percent contained; some evacuation orders downgraded
On the morning of Wednesday, July 21, California Interagency Incident Management Team (CIIMT) 5 Operations Section Chief Corey Rose gave a regular morning update on the status of the Beckwourth Complex.
Everything is continuing to do well around the perimeter of the Sugar Fire, and it remains steady at 105,670 acres and 90 percent containment.
A small section on the east flank is not fully contained yet, but crews are working in the steep terrain to reach full containment.
“What you will be seeing now is a transition- CIIM Team 5 is transitioning out but we have another type 3 team coming in to take over the fire Friday morning, so we’ll be working with them and they have what they need to go forward and be successful,” Rose said.
Rose thanked the local community and various agencies for the assistance during their stay.
The Plumas County Sherriff’s Office reported this morning that as of noon today, mandatory evacuation orders are being modified to an evacuation warning for Frenchman Lake, Carmen, Frenchman Cove, Dooley, Frenchman Village, Doyle Grade, Sugarloaf, Plinco, and Dixie Valley.
Only property owners may return to their properties at this time, and each person will need to furnish a document to prove ownership for access, such as a tax document, deed or other similar paperwork.
There is however still a forest closure in effect, so again, only property owners may access the area to visit their properties at this time.
All are asked to remember that the fire is still active within portions of the burned area, and there will still be spots of smoke seen with fire personnel still actively working.
Citizens are asked not to call 911 to report hotspots unless there is an immediate threat to life or property.
“Just because the flames are out does not mean the danger is over,” PCSO stated. “Damaged trees, terrain, and flash flooding are just some of the dangers that exist after a wildfire. Do not put yourself or your loved ones in danger by exploring.”
