Blue Star Moms host dinner for veterans

The Feather River Chapter Blue Star Moms hosted their seventh annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Monday, Nov. 11, at the Chester Memorial Hall.

The dinner was free to all veterans and active duty service members and their families in Plumas County.

Chapter members said, “This is just our small way of saying thank you to all those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces of the United States. We also do it because of the enjoyment we get from watching the camaraderie of the different generations as they sit down together for dinner.”

What a great dinner greeted the veterans and their families as they arrived — barbeque/smoked roast beef, homemade mac and cheese, baked beans, potato and green salads, rolls and a plethora of desserts. Wow!

For those that may not be familiar with the organization, the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc., is a private nonprofit organization in the U.S. that provides support for mothers who have sons or daughters in active service in the U.S. Armed Forces.

They have active chapters all across the country that provide support to active duty personnel and veterans.

The Feather River Chapter serves Plumas County in many different ways.

The ladies that served up this delicious dinner spent several hours earlier in the day packing up care packages to be sent out to those currently serving our country.

These packages are sent out several times a year and the ladies are always appreciative of any donations of items to help fill the boxes.

For anyone interested in helping to support our troops, visit the web site: Feather River Blue Star Mothers.org, click on projects and then on care packages.

The page has an extensive list of preferred and allowable items as well as what items cannot be shipped and it also has a link that can be used for cash donations.

You can contact the chapter by email at [email protected].
