Celebrating Calpine’s centennial

According to local Cheri Sposito, Calpine has been called Sierra Mountains’ best kept secret for 100 years. “Calpine is a small community that is celebrating the centennial all year,” said Sposito with a smile.

The ninth annual Calpine Marketplace Event will be held this Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and this year, attendees can expect a wide variety of vendors, prize drawings, a bake sale, classic cars, foods of all flavors and a family fun festival to top it all off.

The Family Fun Festival is for kids of all ages, according to event organizers, and all event proceeds go to scholarships for graduating seniors.

The weekend’s fun continues Sunday, Sept. 8, with Calpine hosting a “Town-wide Yard Sale” kicking off at 8 a.m.

“It is easy. Drive through town and look for homes tagged with balloons,” said Sposito. “Don’t miss a street or you may miss a treasure. We love our little town, come help us celebrate it!”
