The Lake Almanor Elks lodge # 2626 recognized several students on Wednesday, May 24, that participated in the Lodge’s annual “Hoop Shoot” and went on to win their age division. The family dinner occasion was also designed to honor local high school seniors that were successful in in their applications for the Elks Scholastic Scholarships.
Two seniors from Chester Jr/Sr High School, Jacklyn Zuniga and Juan Flores, were both awarded $1,500 scholarships; and Plumas Charter School Senior Kahiea Ney received a $1,000 scholarship. Lake Almanor Elks has a long history of supporting area students with their scholarship program.
Due to a competing school music program on Wednesday evening not all the Hoop Shoot winners could make it to the dinner, but the following are the names and divisions of the final tally: 8- to 9-year-old girls: Niamat Sandhu, 10– to 11-year-old girls: Lillyan Hayes, an 12- to 13-year-old girls: Jenna Schlueter.
In the boys division the winners were: 8–to 9-year-olds: Breden White, 10– to 11-year-olds: Lukas Branch, and 12– to 13-year-olds: Colby Clark.
The culinary artisans in the Elks kitchen once again lived up to their reputation with a tasty meal for all.
The event organizer, Bill Mahaffy, said the lodge was truly proud of all the students that applied for the scholarships and noted that members said there was some great competition at the Hoop Shoot. Congratulations to all the students
