A 30-year-old driver (name not included) from Oroville was driving a 2013 Peterbilt tractor towing a semi-trailer loaded with wood shavings westbound on Highway 70, east of the Greenville Wye, at 3:15 a.m. this morning Aug. 30.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver failed to safely negotiate a left-hand curve in the roadway and the Peterbilt began to roll over, onto its left side. The Peterbilt struck a metal guardrail on the south shoulder and subsequently rolled over, then traveled down a steep embankment where it came to rest on its side against a tree.
The unrestrained driver sustained minor to moderate injuries. He subsequently exited the Peterbilt, ascended the embankment up to the roadway, and summoned assistance from a passing motorist. The collision remains under investigation.
The highway was closed for a period today while the Peterbilt was recovered.
