Single-car accident, Oct. 10

At about 7:10 a.m., Hayley Easley, 21, of Greenville, was driving her brother’s 2004 white Dodge Neon eastbound on Highway 70 approaching Butterfly Valley Road at a state speed of 50 mph.

The driver was negotiating a moderate left-hand curve and allowed the tires on the right of the Neon to drift off the roadway and onto the south dirt and rock shoulder. The Dodge began impacting with a large number of rocks on the shoulder, which immediately disabled the car.

The vehicle came to rest facing east with three of its tires still in contact with the shoulder. A passing motorist called 911 to report the collision. Easley waited with the Neon until help arrived.

She had been wearing her seat belt at the time and was not injured.
