The following incidents are submitted by the Quincy Area California Highway Patrol as a tentative summary pending the conclusion of the investigation(s).
Susanville area, June 18
At approximately 5:10 p.m., Bertha Sanchez, 20, of Stockton, and an adult passenger were traveling in a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on US Forest Road 32NO8, 4 miles north of Highway 44. According to the CHP report she was driving at an unsafe speed for the dirt roadway conditions.
A deer ran across the road in front of the Jeep. Sanchez lost control of the vehicle, which slid off the west side of the road and struck a large tree. The Cherokee bounced off the tree and rolled, coming to rest on its roof blocking the road.
Both occupants had been wearing seat belts. They were treated for minor injuries at the scene by Seneca. Sanchez and her passenger were then transferred to Banner Lassen Medical Center for further medical evaluation.
