CHP Report: Head-on collision results in three fatalities
According to the California Highway Patrol, an 81-year-old Doyle man was driving a 1996 Kia northbound on Highway 395 at the Pozzolan Plant (north of Hallelujah Junction) at 4:42 p.m. on Nov. 7.
A female driver, T. Arney, 41, of Springfield, Oregon, was driving a Ford sedan southbound on Highway 395, north of the Kia at 65 miles per hour. For an unknown reason the Doyle man (identity withheld pending notification of family) allowed his vehicle to veer to the left and cross the solid double center line, into the path of Ms. Arney’s vehicle, which resulted in a head-on collision.
Both vehicles suffered major damage. Arney and one of her passengers Ms. K. Hamilton, 60, of Lakeview, Oregon, died at the scene prior to emergency help arriving, as did the Doyle man. Another passenger in Arney’s vehicle, Ms. K. Arney, 33, of Salida, Colorado, was transported by ambulance to Renown Medical Center with major injuries.
The incident is under investigation.
