At a special meeting held on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 29, the City Council of Portola met as City Manager Lauren Knox announced her formal resignation from her position.
City Manager Update
The only agenda item was an employment announcement from Portola City Manager Lauren Knox.
Knox opened by reading her letter of resignation, which stated in part, “My family and I will be welcoming our second child and I cannot give both my family and the city what is needed… I will do whatever I can to make this transition as seamless as possible, through February 11, 2022.”
Knox expressed her gratitude for the experience and noted how impressed she was with how much respect all council members and staff have for each other in their duties. “It’s been a pleasure working with you all and serving my community. Thank you for your support,” Knox said.
Council members noted the need for an interim city manager to take over after February 11, and Oels made a motion to accept Knox’s letter of resignation. The motion was then seconded and then approved by unanimous roll call vote.
Peiler took the opportunity to thank Knox for everything that she has done for the city. “It’s been a pleasure working with you, and congratulations on your new baby,” Peiler said. “Thank you for your time.”
After that, a motion was approved unanimously to begin taking immediate steps in the process of selecting an interim city manager.
