Congressional candidate visits Indian Valley

Dr. Kermit Jones, candidate for U.S. Congress, was the guest of honor at a gala reception held in Greenville Saturday evening, Aug. 13. Donors from Plumas, Sierra, and Placer counties enjoyed elegant food and live music in a peaceful garden setting.

The event was hosted by the Indian Valley Indivisibles with support from the Plumas County Democratic Central Committee.

This is the third time that Dr. Kermit Jones has come to this far northern outpost of the new California Congressional District 3. His first visit focused on learning about forestry and fire issues. On the second visit he met with veterans. As a veteran, Dr. Jones has a special interest in veterans’ issues.

This time the main conversations were about insurance. Dr. Jones told the attendees that the first bill he would propose would be for creation of a national insurance plan that would cover homeowners, businesses, and fire departments at a more reasonable cost.

Dr. Kermit Jones is the Democratic candidate for Representative to District 3. This is a new district created through the redistricting that happens after each census. District 3 runs from Plumas County in the north to Inyo County to the south, mainly running down the east side of the Sierra, but picking up some population centers on the west side of the Sierra as well.

The Indian Valley Indivisibles work to make sure that candidates know about local issues and care about Plumas County. “Dr. Jones has shown an impressive interest in our area and an ability to learn quickly about our issues,” said Darrah Hopper, a Chester resident. “As a physician and veteran, Dr. Kermit Jones has a wide-ranging understanding of the issues that face so many people throughout the huge district.”
