Contest highlights the arts

Portola Jr./Sr. High School is competing in the 10th annual Vans Custom Culture Sneaker Design competition. PJSHS Art Teacher Elisabeth Henson said, “We are very honored to share our version of what ‘Off the Wall’ and ‘Local Flavor’ means to our school! The PJSHS art class would like to say thank you to Vans Custom Culture!” Vans is working to bring attention to diminishing arts education nationwide and the importance of youth creativity and self-expression by donating $75,000 toward the winning school’s art program, and $10,000 to the four runners-up. PJSHS is now one step closer to that goal. Public vote is open through May 3. Vote at customculture.vans.com to help PJSHS become a Top 5 school. Congratulations to Emery Hart for her “Off the Wall” Koi design and Faith Holms for her “Local Flavor” avocado design. Photo submitted
