DA files charges against Portola man in home invasion robbery

Plumas County District Attorney David Hollister filed a nine-count complaint against James Woodrow Swangler, age 26, of Portola, on May 19. The complaint consists of seven felonies, including allegations of home invasion robbery and kidnap to commit robbery, and two misdemeanor charges. If convicted, Swangler faces a life term in prison.

The complaint stems from an incident on May 16 when Swangler is alleged to have crashed a stolen car into another car on Bradley Street in Quincy and then fled. The next morning, May 17, Swangler is alleged to have broken into an occupied house where he stole a car from the victim. Swangler was arrested later in the morning after a foot pursuit which led to Code Red notifications for a Quincy neighborhood as well as a lockdown of Quincy schools.

Swangler appeared in court for arraignment on May 19.
