Donald L. Morrison
Donald L. Morrison, of Kensington, CA, passed into the presence of his Savior on October 16, 2020, at age 93, in Portola, Plumas Co., CA. He was born in Omaha, NE, and grew up in Lincoln. He moved to Crockett, CA, after he served in the Army in WWII (West Point artillery demonstrations for cadets) and graduated from the University of Nebraska as a Chemical Engineer. He was employed by C&H Sugar refinery and later by Shell Oil Co. in Martinez, CA.
Don continued to serve our nation as an instructor in the US Naval Reserves for over 30 years. He was active in the Clean Bay environmental group as well as in Richmond Yacht Club where he raced his Ariel, Jubilee, on San Francisco Bay, and taught his oldest daughter to race. He was a member of RYC since 1964 and served a term as Commodore. At one point in his sailing career, Latitude 38 had him pegged as having “won the most season championships on San Francisco Bay.”
Many fond memories are shared by his two daughters, Julie Sustala and Jennifer Condliffe, and his seven grandchildren (one preceding him to heaven) and two great-grandchildren. When asked recently what he would like people to remember about him, he answered, ” … that I loved my family.” We love him, too! We are looking forward to a happy reunion in Christ, whom he met by faith on September 26th, just 20 days before meeting Him face-to-face!
We wish to thank his caretakers, Lina and Va, for their extraordinary compassion, hard work, and expertise in helping our dad with all aspects of his care, with a great shout-out to ALL his caretakers, PTs, OTs, ST, drs, nurses, and staff at Eastern Plumas Health Care in Portola. Memorial service is to be held at Sierra Christian Church on November 7th, 2020, at a TBD time. Call 530-249-9136 for info.
