At a regular meeting of the City of Portola council this evening Jan. 12, it was announced that the city will make a conditional offer of employment to former Plumas County Supervisor Jon Kennedy to serve as interim city manager. Kennedy w0uld take up residence in the city by Feb. 1.

The offer is contingent upon a variety of background checks — including financial, criminal, and DMV  — which is a customary procedure. There will also be a physical exam for the position. Once the conditions are successfully met, the contract will then be signed by Mayor Pat Morton and Kennedy will step into his role.

Kennedy would be succeeding City Manager Lauren Knox who resigned her position to devote more time to family. Knox is set to leave the job Feb. 11.

More information about the Kennedy’s appointment, as well as other business conducted during the meeting, will be included in a future story.
