You know how the old saying goes, “Who doesn’t need a horse that’s been to college?” This Saturday, May 14 is the 24th Annual Feather River College Production Horse Sale held at the Equine Facility at FRC. The horses consigned within the sale are ranging from 3 – 5 years old, with the majority being born and raised within the Feather River College Equine Program.
The students are involved in the entire training process from the time the horses are born, up until when they are sold. Susannah Campbell, Equine & Ag Instructor, had this to say about the student involvement, “Students have incredible opportunities throughout the entire process; from working with top horse trainers, going on field trips, taking their sale horses on week-long trips, gaining real world experiences, and building amazing bonds with their fellow peers. The FRC Production Horse Sale is incredibly important to the entire Equine Department as it gives the faculty and students the ability to set a goal and present their hard work to the public.”
Not only that, but proceeds from this sale directly benefit the Equine Studies Program through the Feather River College Foundation. This live auction consists of top quarter horse bloodlines and versatile riding horses trained by specially selected students who have worked daily with these horses. All horses sell with a satisfaction guarantee and a Zoetis Equine Immunization Support Guarantee.
The sale day preview will begin at 9 a.m. and the auction will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to the sale, buyers have the opportunity to attend a special preview and student competition on Friday, May 13, at noon at FRC where students will show off their sale horses over a variety of different obstacle and exercises. The Eagle’s Perch will provide food concessions and all are welcome to attend. For more information and a list of all horses, please visit frc.edu/horsesale
